In May 2007, the CVU library started a special collection to honor the 14 years Bill Mares taught social studies at CVU. The Global Community Collection is composed of books that will inspire young adults to learn about the political and social communities around them. Many donations have already been made, in funds to purchase books for the collection, as well as new books purchased specifically for the collection. All books are added to the CVU library’s collection, and identified with a donor’s bookplate, as well as a special designation in the library catalog so that users can search for the collection. Any individual interested in making a donation to the Global Community Collection can send a check to the CVU library–noting who the donation is from–and designating the contribution is for the Bill Mares Global Community Collection.
